What type of preference modeling problem do you need to research?

A list of items (typically 8 or more), where the goal is to estimate the relative importance or preference for the items. Being able to estimate how multiple items taken together affect overall preference is NOT a research goal.

Attributes each involve multiple levels (such as multiple brands, prices, speeds, or styles). The goal is to estimate how levels from different attributes combine to affect overall preference for a product.
