Survey Settings (Style Tab)

Survey Style

 

Default Style

The default style allows you to select a color that will be used in certain places (e.g. Page Header text, the Submit Button, etc.) throughout the survey.  Select one of our recommended colors or enter your own custom HEX color code.

 

Import Custom Style

Selecting Import Custom Style allows you to specify your own custom style that will be used throughout the survey.  To create a custom style you need to create a custom CSS file with various CSS rules that overwrite our default CSS.  This file must then be placed in a folder that can also contain additional files (e.g. images or font files) referenced in your CSS file.  Both the CSS file and the folder must have the same name.  For example if your style was named "MyStyle" then you would need to create a folder named "MyStyle" with a CSS file "MyStyle.css" inside of it.  When selecting the custom style from Lighthouse Studio you will need to select the folder you created.  This will copy the folder and all of its files into the study graphics folder.

Please note that some settings such as the Survey Color will not be used if you use a custom style.

 

Legacy Styles available prior to Lighthouse Studio 9.8 are still available on our website.  To apply one of these styles to your survey download legacy_styles.zip.  Unzip the files onto your hard drive and then follow the Custom Style directions above to import any of the styles into your survey.

 

No Style

This option applies basic formatting and simple styling.

 


Header / Footer

 

Page Header & Page Footer

Text or images can be placed here and will appear on every page of your survey.

 

Logo

You can include an image that will appear in the top left hand corner of every page in the survey.  We recommend that the image be 200 pixels wide and 50 pixels tall.  Images with different dimensions than this will be adjusted to fit.

 

Browser Title

This field lets you specify the text that appears in the title bar of your browser (very top of the browser window, typically on the browser tab).  This lets you further customize the browser appearance for your survey.  For example, you may want the browser title bar to say: "Customer Satisfaction Survey".

 


Buttons

 

Navigation Buttons

These are the buttons at the bottom of each page that allow respondents to proceed to the next page or go back to the prior page in the survey.  If Text is selected then you can specify the text that will appear on the buttons.  Selecting Graphics allows you to choose custom graphics that will be displayed for the buttons.  If you do not specify a graphic a default graphic will be used.

 

Input Buttons

These are the buttons used to display radio buttons and checkboxes in select and grid questions etc.  If you'd like you can specify the images to use for these buttons.  If these fields are left blank a default image will be displayed.

 

Browser Title

Progress Bar

 

Progress Bar Formatting

These settings allow you to configure the appearance of the progress bar.  Default settings are used if these settings are left blank.

 

Advanced Settings

Start Value (%): Specifies the beginning value for the progress bar.  This is useful if you are linking multiple Lighthouse surveys and need to specify a certain beginning value.

 

End Value (%): Specifies the ending value for the progress bar.  This is useful if you are linking multiple Lighthouse surveys together and need to specify a certain ending value.

 

Progress Based Upon Question Position (default method): This method of measuring progress is based on (current page)/(total # pages).  Works best for questionnaires not involving loops or randomized blocks.

 

Progress Based Upon Total Questions Seen:  This method shows progress based on (#questions seen)/(total number of questions based on Estimated % of questions each will see).  This method potentially works better for questionnaires involving loops and randomized blocks.

 

Estimated % of the questions each respondent will see: Typically, you would specify 100 here.  For example, a questionnaire with no skip patterns (where respondents see all questions) shows each respondent 100% of the questions.  But, if you have planned a questionnaire in which respondents see only half the questions (such as randomly selecting respondents to see either the first half or last half of the questions), then you should specify a 50 for this field.  Otherwise, the progress bar would suddenly jump forward for respondents who are randomly skipped over the first half of the questions.  For the other half of the respondents, the progress bar would slowly advance to 50%, until it suddenly jumped to 100%.
