Research information Jelle Van Cauwenberg

Currently, Jelle is a PhD-student in the Physical Activity & Nutrition Research group at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Ghent University. His PhD-project focuses upon the environmental determinants of physical activity in older adults. In other words, he studies which environmental characteristics, such as sidewalk evenness, traffic speed, presence of greenery, etc., stimulate or hinder getting outdoors and being active among older adults. For this purpose, he will use the Sawtooth-software to conduct a CBC-study in which older adults will choose between different streets to walk. These streets will be presented by means of panoramic photographs that are manipulated on the relevant environmental characteristics with Adobe Photoshop. Jelle is also involved in studies that will use the same methodology to examine the environmental factors influencing physical activity among children and adults.
