Julia Frese

Julia Frese is a master student in media management at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany. In her studies she is particularly interested in the changes in the media industry and the resulting challenges for companies. With her master thesis she wants to develop a proposal how news media should present their content efficiently online in order to be economically successful in the long run.

While journalists used to be responsible for selecting news for their customers, in the internet the customer decides autonomously which news he wants to consume. Therefore, it is essential for news companies to know the needs and interests of their customers in order to satisfy their requirements in a targeted manner if they want to have long-term success. Although news companies have already expanded their business to the online sector in the 1990s, they have not yet been able to develop an efficient business model for this market. With the help of news value theory, Julia's master's thesis aims to provide a new perspective on how news media content could be optimized and to uncover customer preferences through ACBC.
