Ayla Turan

Ayla Turan is a 25-year- old PhD candidate at the gastroenterology department of the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

After graduating from medical school from the Radboud University, she combined her love for gastroenterology and her interest in clinical science in a PhD project. She focuses on endoscopic techniques to prevent late bleedings as a complication of large polyp removals in the large intestine. Her main project is the CLIPPER study, a randomized clinical trial from the Dutch EMR Study Group to determine the effect of prophylactic clipping on preventing delayed bleedings after EMR (a polyp removal technique). For more information on the CLIPPER study please visit www.clippertrial.nl.

In this context she will perform a scenario based CBC study to analyze the current motivations of endoscopists for using these endoclips for prophylactic wound closure after EMR to prevent bleeding. As this is still a controversial topic, this study will help determine the beliefs driving current clinical practice and may identify hurdles for later implementation of results of clinical trials on this topic.
